French Electric Bikes: Prioritize Local Expertise

What is considered a French electric bike?

Electric bikes certified "Origine France Garantie"

In concrete terms, electric bikes or electrically assisted bicycles (EABs) with "Origine France Garantie" certification are based on 2 fundamental criteria:

  • At least 50% of the unit cost price is achieved in France.

More simply, at least half of the manufacturing cost of the product must come from France. Thus, if a bike costs €1000 to produce, at least €500 must correspond to French labor, parts, or raw materials.

  • The essential characteristics of the product are obtained in France.

In other words, what truly defines the product (its assembly, design, specific expertise) must be carried out on French territory.

Unlike "Made in France" electric bikes, the "Origine France Garantie" certification assures users that a certified electric bike is not just "finished" in France, but that it derives its value and identity from its French production (frame, motor, wheels, etc.).

However, at Ultima Mobility, we did not stop solely at obtaining this certification (at least 50%). We also chose to manufacture 90% of our electric bikes in France, to guarantee this quality and local expertise on a daily basis.

The advantages of local expertise in electric bikes

Guaranteed quality and durability

French manufacturers often emphasize precision assembly, robust parts, and therefore the reliability and safety of their electric bike ranges. And it's true, when you cycle every day, you prefer your bike to be reliable.

It's more practical, more reliable, and offers a better experience for users.

Don't you find it reassuring to know that someone took the time to build your daily mode of transport just a few kilometers from your home rather than on the other side of the world?

Repair rather than discard

Buying locally also makes maintaining your bike much simpler and thus benefits from better service. Parts available faster, repairers who know the brand, which means fewer problems, less waiting, and especially fewer disposable parts.

Have you ever found yourself with a broken appliance, impossible to repair, due to its origin? With an electric bike made in France, that happens much less often!

Contribute to the local economy and support employment

Behind every bike, there are technicians, engineers, assemblers, and sometimes even artisans. Choosing a local electric bike is not just buying a practical product, it's also supporting these local jobs and, above all, preserving these skills that could otherwise disappear.

Reduced carbon footprint: fewer journeys, less CO2

When a bike is manufactured in France, it doesn't need to travel thousands of kilometers by cargo before reaching you.

The result? A much lower carbon footprint, simplified delivery, and enhanced traceability.

That's not all! By choosing a French electric assist bike, you not only reduce your own emissions by riding in the city, but also those used during production. And if you are very environmentally conscious, opt for a reconditioned electric bike.

How to choose your French electric bike?

In reality, the choice is not as obvious as it might seem and varies greatly depending on your profile. It's even less so if you want it to be absolutely made in France.

But we can help you find the one that suits you!

Define your needs first

Ask yourself a simple question: "What will I use this bike for?"

  • To go to work.

  • For weekend rides (with family, friends, in the city).

  • To pick up your children from school.

  • For more athletic practices.

  • For short or long distances.

Whatever your situation, your usage should dictate your choice, not the other way around.

Check battery autonomy

Who would want to run out of power halfway? Not you, so, remember to estimate your average journeys!

This will help you choose the best option for you: a standard autonomy battery or a more powerful battery for long journeys.

Also prioritize batteries assembled or manufactured in France or Europe: they will often be more reliable and more easily replaceable.

Think about comfort and safety

Like a classic bike, a motorcycle, a scooter, or a car, an electric assist bike should make you want to use it every day. So ask yourself: "Do I feel good on it, is it really comfortable?"

Think about all the small details that can change your daily life (included equipment, adjustable parts or adapted to your body shape, powerful brakes, etc.).

Choose a committed French brand

Not all bikes are equal, so look beyond a simple logo:

  • Is the brand transparent about the actual proportion of its manufacturing in France (components, assembly)?

  • Is there a network of repairers near you?

  • Do they offer real customer follow-up and good after-sales service?

And why? Because in the end, a French electric bike also means local service.

Price and value for money

Let's be honest: a locally manufactured electric bike will tend to be more expensive than an imported model. But is that really what you should focus on? Well, not quite!

A local electric bike is the result of expertise, better sourced materials, and more responsible assembly, as mentioned previously. So you are paying for the transparency and durability of these local models.

An imported electric bike is often cheaper to buy, but over several years, is it really so profitable after all? A French bike, on the other hand, is better designed, easier to repair, and often lasts longer.

So, it's better to invest in a reliable model than to multiply repairs because, ultimately, it's a real long-term investment!

In short, ask yourself the right questions, try several models, and most importantly, choose the one that constantly makes you want to cycle! And if you're looking for an electric bike that ticks all the boxes, why not come and test one of our ranges directly in-store?
